Your goal at Blackjack: When playing Blackjack, your goal is to have a hand of greater total value than the dealer, without exceeding 21. Blackjack is the best possible hand. It’s when you get a 21 with your first two cards. You have only one opponent, and that is the dealer. You don’t play against the other players.
Some tips and strategies exist to reduce the casino’s advantage.
The different rules of Blackjack on online casinos
- The game is hosted by a dealer and can have up to 7 players seated at the table.
- This game is played with a total of 8 decks of 52 cards.
- Cards from 2 to 10 are worth their value.
- The 10s, jacks, queens and kings are all worth 10.
- Aces are either worth 1 or 11 depending of the card paired with it.
Once the betting time is up, the dealer will deal a visible card to each player, starting from the right. The dealer will finish by giving himself a card. The dealer will then deal one more card to each player, always face up. But the dealer’s second card will be face down. If the value of your two-card hand adds up to 21, you have a Blackjack.
When the dealer does not have Blackjack with his first two cards, players will have a chance to improve their hand. Players have the option to Double, Stand, Stay or Split depending on what he thinks is best for him and his bankroll.
If your hand value is not 21, you may decide to draw more than once to receive additional cards. Once you are satisfied with your hand, you can stay.
- Double: A player can double his bet by receiving a new card. It is advisable to double down on an Ace of value 11. Watch out for your bankroll.
- Stand / Stay: When a player does not want an extra card and stays with its current hand value.
- Hit: It’s asking the dealer for an extra card.
- Split: It’s when a player splits a pair of identical cards into two hands. Splitting a hand means that you double your bet.

#2 – Split / double your hands
When a player has a pair in his hand, he can split them into two separate hands. Splitting a hand doubles your initial bet. This technique is useful when you have pairs of 6s, 7s or 8s in your possession. It is not recommended to split a pair of 9s or 10s.
On some occasions, in can be wise to double your hand. When doubling, you are only allowed to draw one more card. However, it is only advisable to use this technique when the dealer has a small card, such as a 4, 5 or 6. Double on an 11 only if the dealer does not have an Ace. If the dealer has a 9 or lower, double your 10.
